Shift subtitle timing

Subtitles out of sync with the video? Move every line earlier or later by the same amount, or only the lines after a cut. It runs in your browser; your file is not uploaded.

For example -2.5, 0,75, 300ms or -00:00:01,500.

Letters look wrong?

Old subtitle files are often saved in a regional code page instead of UTF-8. The file you download is always UTF-8.

    Video without subtitles yet?

Subtylo writes them from your video's speech, timed word by word, in 20 tested languages. Pick an animated style for TikTok, Reels or Shorts and download the video. Free to try with a small watermark; SRT files and clean 1080p are in the US$7 pack.

How to fix subtitles that are out of sync

    1. Choose your .srt or .vtt file, or paste it.
    2. Play the video and note when a line is spoken and when its subtitle appears. If the subtitle comes 2 seconds late, type -2; if it comes too early, type a positive number.
    3. Click Download. The file keeps its format and its name, so your player still finds it next to the video.

Only part of the file is off?

When a video was cut or an ad break was removed, subtitles are right at the start and wrong after a point. Type that point under Only lines from (for example 12:30) and only the subtitles from there on move.

    Common questions

Should I type a positive or a negative number?

Negative moves subtitles earlier: use it when they appear after the words are spoken. Positive moves them later: use it when they appear before.

Can I shift by fractions of a second?

Yes, to the millisecond. Type -0.25, -0,25, 250ms or a time such as -00:00:01,500.

What happens to subtitles moved before 0:00?

A subtitle that would start before 0:00 but end after it starts at 0:00. One that would end before 0:00 could never be shown, so it is removed. The page tells you how many of each.

Is anything else in the file changed?

An SRT keeps its text and is renumbered. A VTT keeps its header, STYLE and NOTE blocks, cue names, positions and karaoke word times, which move with their subtitle.

    Is my file uploaded?

No. The shift is calculated in your browser and the file never leaves your device.

What if the delay grows over the video?

Then the video and the subtitles have different frame rates (for example 23.976 and 25 frames per second), and one shift cannot fix both ends. That needs a frame rate conversion, which this tool does not do yet.
