Remove audio from a video
Choose an MP4 or MOV video and download it without sound. The picture is your original, not re-encoded, and the video is never uploaded.
It works in this page. The video is not uploaded, so a large file takes no longer than a small one to send: nothing is sent.

Video without subtitles yet?
Subtylo writes them from your video's speech, timed word by word, in 20 tested languages. Pick an animated style for TikTok, Reels or Shorts and download the video. Free to try with a small watermark; SRT files and clean 1080p are in the US$7 pack.
Make subtitles from a videoHow to mute a video
- Choose your video or drop it on the box. Phone videos (iPhone .mov, Android .mp4) work as they are.
- Wait a moment: the page removes the sound track and blanks the sound in the file.
- Play the preview to check, then click Download video.
Why the quality does not change
Most online muters decode and encode the whole video again, which takes time and loses a little quality each time. This tool does not touch the picture: it removes the sound track from the file's index and overwrites the sound itself with zeros. The picture, its rotation and its length are exactly as before. That is also why the file keeps about the same size.
Common questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The page reads your video in your browser and builds the silent copy there. Nothing is sent to a server, so private videos stay private and nothing waits for an upload.
Is the sound really gone, or just hidden?
Gone. The sound track is removed and every byte of its sound is overwritten with zeros, so it cannot be recovered from the new file.
Which formats work?
MP4, MOV and M4V, the files phones, cameras, screen recorders and video editors save. WebM and fragmented MP4 (some live-stream recordings) are not supported yet; the page tells you if your file is one of them.
Does it add a watermark?
No. There is no watermark, signup or limit.
I want to keep the sound but as a separate file.
Use Extract audio from video: it saves the sound as an M4A file.
I muted the video to add my own captions or music. Can you help?
Subtylo adds animated captions from a video's speech, free to try. For a muted video, add the captions first, then remove the sound.
