SBV to SRT converter

YouTube Studio downloads captions as .sbv, which most editors and players do not read. Choose or paste the file and get an .srt at once, without uploading it anywhere.

Letters look wrong?

Old subtitle files are often saved in a regional code page instead of UTF-8. The file you download is always UTF-8.

How to convert SBV to SRT

    1. In YouTube Studio open Subtitles, choose the language, then Download and .sbv.
    2. Choose that file here, drop it on the box, or paste its text.
    3. Click Download .srt.

    What changes in the file

An SBV subtitle starts with a time line like 0:00:01.000,0:00:03.500. In SRT each subtitle gets a number and the times become 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,500. The text stays as it is.

    Common questions

    Why convert SBV to SRT?

SRT is read by Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, VLC, TVs, Facebook, LinkedIn and Vimeo. SBV is read by YouTube and very little else.

    Is my file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in this page; your captions never leave your device.

What if a time line is broken?

That subtitle is left out and listed with its line number, so you can fix it. Nothing is dropped without telling you.
